First of all, Club Car golf carts have 4 or 6 batteries that propagate a force of 36 volts or 48 volts.
- 6 batteries of 6 volts for 36 volts
- 6 batteries of 8 volt for 48 volt
- 4 batteries of 12 volt for 48 volt
For your new batteries to operate at their maximum capacity, you need to have recharged them 20 to 50 times, depending on use. In addition, it is important that you fully charge your batteries before their first use, after storage and if the vehicle is used every day.
By using your cart every year, the batteries last for about 8 years (this estimate depends on how well you maintain your batteries). This is because the year of the batteries is displayed by its last digit and the months are displayed with letters. For example, a battery installed in June 2016 will be indicated by F6.
You have to be aware that the less the batteries are maintained, the less electrolytes they have. The decrease in the amount of electrolytes weakens their performance. In addition, it is not recommended to install new batteries with old ones to prevent the new ones from being drained.
IT IS IMPORTANT AND PRIMORDIAL TO WEAR PROTECTIVE GLASSES AND GLOVES TO AVOID BURNS!
Battery maintenance:
- Before you start, protect the body of your cart located near the batteries. Indeed, if a splash of electrolyte (acid) gets on the body, it will burn.
- It is important to turn the step adapter to TOW before starting.
- Check the water level in the batteries. Add water if necessary only AFTER charging the batteries.
- The water should only reach above the battery plates (1 to 1.5 cm). It is important not to fill the water to the stopper to avoid acid overflow (if you accidentally overfill them, take a pear-like instrument and squeeze out the excess water). On the other hand, if the batteries are not full enough, they will be damaged more quickly. In addition, it is advisable to use distilled or demineralized water (bottled water, not tap). Checking the water in the batteries is necessary once a month or more depending on the use of the cart.
- Check if the battery cables are tight to maximize their performance and avoid resistance that can cause the pole to overheat until the controller pops ($$$). Be careful, do not over tighten them so as not to break the terminals.
- Clean the battery terminals with a wire brush or fine sandpaper to remove the sulfate (grayish / whitish residue). This step allows the batteries to efficiently store current. If you find that the terminals are damaged, replace them.
- Using a cloth, absorb the water on the batteries and dust off the dirt (We do not recommend cleaning the batteries with a water jet to avoid the chances of damaging the body of the cart with the battery acid.)
- Apply a protective spray to the battery terminals.
